Sara F. Merin is Assistant General Counsel in the U.S. Office of Compliance for Bayer US. In that role, Sara provides strategic support to business partners, advises on and develops policy, and leads investigations across all U.S. businesses.
Prior to joining Bayer, Sara served for over ten years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey. During her time at the U.S. Attorney's Office, she led joint criminal-civil investigations into health care fraud, including offenses involving kickbacks and False Claims Act violations and investigated and prosecuted complex white-collar cases, including frauds targeting federal programs, tax fraud, and mortgage fraud, as well as a wide range of international and domestic narcotics trafficking, opioid diversion, violent crime, threat, civil rights, and firearms offenses. She also served as Deputy Chief of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force/Narcotics Unit and as the Office’s liaison to the District Court’s pretrial, post-conviction drug court. Sara was a litigator at McCarter & English before joining the government, focusing on product liability and other commercial litigation. She clerked for judges of the U.S. District Court in New Jersey and the New Jersey State Appellate Division and served as a legislative aide in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Sara is a graduate of Rutgers University School of Law and Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut.
