Michelle Kallen is the former Solicitor General of Virginia. In that role, she served as lead counsel representing Virginia, Illinois, and Nevada in their effort to vindicate their ratifications of the Equal Rights Amendment. Michelle also represented the Commonwealth in connection with various cases involving reproductive rights, including drafting multistate briefs seeking to assure access to reproductive care. Michelle is an appellate Partner in the DC office at Jenner & Block, and a member of the firm’s post-Dobbs task force.
Michelle regularly files briefs and litigates matters in the US Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of Virginia, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the Eastern District of Virginia, and other state and federal courts. She achieved notable wins in these venues during her tenure in the Office of the Attorney General of Virginia, including in cases involving constitutional challenges under state and federal law.
Michelle maintains an active pro bono practice and is committed to serving her community, with an emphasis on partnering with others to elevate and advocate on behalf of women’s issues. Michelle serves as a mentor for The Appellate Project and has litigated pro bono matters on behalf of the Center for Reproductive Rights, Planned Parenthood, and the National Women’s Law Center. She is also a founding member of the Washington Area Women Trial Attorneys, the Women Lawyers on Guard, and the Ad Idem Corporate Counsel Network. She earned her JD from Vanderbilt University Law School, and obtained her BA from Stanford University.
